5 Reasons to Visit Giant this Week (05/01-05/07) - Dollar Doubler Coupons Included!

Hot diggity dawg, there are some sweet deals to be had at Giant in the coming week. Of course, many of them depend on you possessing dollar doubler coupons. The first few times that Giant offered these, they were also available in-store in the ads, but not the last time! Therefore, we advise that you keep your doubler coupons from the ad you receive in your paper or mail, and ask neighbors or friends for some others if they won't use them.

Remember that all coupons up to $0.99 in value double automatically every day at Giant, so only use the doublers for your $1 coupons. The dollar doubler coupons are usable in sets of 4 per $15 transaction. Click here to see an actual May 1 transaction - and Mr. Linky links to other blogs' Dollar Doubler strategies/transactions!

Here are the top 5 reasons we spotted to visit Giant this week:

  1. Free cereal! Kellogg's, Post, or Quaker Cereal (specifically: Frosted Flakes, Cap'n Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles) are $1.88. Applicable coupons: $1/1 Kellogg's cereal, 04/05 RP. Double this one with the doublers to get free Frosted Flakes! My husband is going to love this one. Even if you don't double them, they are just $0.88/box after coupon.
  2. $0.20/each Dannon. Dannon Yoghurts (Fruit on the Bottom and Light'n'Fit) are 20/$8, or $0.40 each. Use the $1/10 coupon from the 03/15 SS, and double it, to get them for just $0.20 each.
  3. $0.50 light ice cream or fro-yo! Turkey Hill Ice Cream is 2/$5. There was a $1.00/1 Turkey Hill light recipe ice cream or frozen yogurt in the 02/22 RP, and if you double this, it will make the light recipe or fro-yo $0.50/carton!
  4. Cheeeaaap Ball Park Franks. Beef franks are BOGO, and the $1/1 coupon in the 04/26 SS can be doubled - meaning you are getting up to $4 off the price of one package - to get two packages! These couldn't possibly get any cheaper.
  5. FREE crab meat! Use this $1/1 printable Crab Classic coupon to get the 2/$4-priced Crab Classic free when you use a dollar doubler coupon.
Here are other deals and Giant coupon matchups that we spotted, starting with other freebies:
  • FREE Vitaminwater10 (still 10/$10) when you use the $1/1 from the 04/05 SS insert. Yes, it's still free. :)
  • Coffee-Mate creamers are 2/$4. Go here to get a $1/1 printable (register with your junk email address), making the creamer FREE if you use a dollar doubler coupon.
  • Riceworks Chips (gluten free!) are 2/$4. Use the $1/1 from the 04/19 RP to get them for FREE when you double it! There was also a BOGO Riceworks coupon in the same insert.
  • Potential freebie alert: Russel Stover Chocolates are BOGO. There were BOGO-type Russell Stover coupons as follows - not currently sure which, if any, would apply:
~ 11/02/08 SS: Russell Stover Sugar Free Candy, 3 oz. bag, Buy 2, Get 1 Free (expires 5-31-09)
~ 11/09/08 SS: Russell Stover Private Reserve, Internationale, etc, 3.95 to 4.95 oz. BOGO (expires 5-31-09)
~ 01/11 SS: Russell Stover Sugar Free Big Bag, any 10 oz. $1 (expires 7/31/09) Dollar-double the coupon to get $2 off - and use 2 coupons + 2 dollar doublers, for a total of $4 off.
Let us know if you try any of these and have success (or not).
  • $4.99/lb. (half price!) Porterhouse or T-Bone Steaks.
  • $0.24/ear of Sweet White Corn (or $1.88 for 8). All right! After watching it be $0.88-$0.99/each, this is a big price drop. Does anybody know how long this stuff stores? In other words, how much can I get away with buying? lol
  • $1.88/lb. tomatoes on the vine.
  • $1.99/lb. (half-price) spareribs, dinner links, or brats.
  • Pepsi 12-packs are 4/$10 ($2.50 each), must buy 4.
  • $0.25 Knorr sides. Knorr pasta sides or rice sides are 10/$10. Use the $0.75/2 (03/29 RP), which will double automatically, making them $0.25 each.
  • $1 mangos. Smooooothies are calling my name. :)
  • $0.20 limes (5/$1). Cinco de Mayo celebrations!
  • Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes (includes sweet potato) are 2/$5. Use the 03/22 SmartSource insert's $0.35/1 coupon, which would make these $1.80 each.
  • Johnsonville Breakfast Links are 2/$5. Use the $1/2 coupon from the 04/05 SS (the one with the Sears optical cover), and get it doubled, to make them $1.50 each.
  • SeaPak Shrimp Entrees are 25% off. Use the $1/2 coupon from the 03/01 RP, or the $1/2 printable coupons available here, and dollar doubler the coupons, to make them even cheaper.
  • Tribe Hummus 8 oz. packages are 4/$10 ($2.50 each). Use the printable $0.55/1 (any - page 4) or $0.75/1 (organic - page 5) to make them $1.40 or $1, respectively.
  • California Pizza Kitchen Pizzas are $6.49. Use the going-fast printable $2 coupon to make them $4.49 - cheaper than the Giant brand imitations.
  • Stella Cheese is $6.99/lb. Use the $0.55/1 coupon printable here (page 2) to get it for $1.10 cheaper.
  • Lean Cuisine entrees are 4/$10 (no coupons apply).
  • Ben & Jerry's single-serving Ice Cream Cups are 4/$5. OK, we give up. There is no practical reason to buy these - not even a coupon matchup. But if you (or a loved one) are having one of those days, is not $1.25 a small price to pay for 3.6 oz. of heaven (and no tempting carton in the freezer later)?
  • Tyson Any'tizers are 2/$7. Use the $1/1 coupon from the 03/08 SS - and dollar-double it! - to get them for just $1.50/bag. Wow, that was easy. ;)
  • Bertolli Complete Dinner for two is $6.99. Register here (use your junk email address) for a $1.50/1 frozen meal printable coupon to make them $5.49 each. This is part of the Meal Deal for the week - see the bottom fo the post for details.

  • Sargento Shredded Cheese is 2/$5, all varieties. $0.50/1 Sargento Artisan Blends or Bistro Blends Natural Shredded Cheese, 5 oz. or Larger (01/18 SS), doubles, make the cheese $1.50/bag. $0.50/2 Sargento Natural Shredded Cheese, any 2, 5 oz. or Larger (01/25 SS), makes them $2/bag.
  • $1 half gallons of Over the Moon Milk. Normally this is priced around $3.50/half gal., but the $1/1 from the 03/01 SS (there are also some $1/1 tearpads by the milk at CVS) will make this week's 2/$6 price $1/ea when you pair the coupons with dollar doubler coupons. Read our Over the Moon review here.
  • Kashi Heart-to-Heart cereals (many varieties) are $3.33. Use the $1.50/2 coupon currently available at coupons.com to get them for ~$2.58/box.
  • Nonni's biscotti is 2/$6. Use the $1/1 from the 02/22 SS - and double it - to make it just $1/box.
  • Dunkin' Donuts coffee is $6.99 - and the $1.50/2 coupon from the 04/05 RP would make it $6.24/each. Not really a deal unless you're out and life is not worth living without DD coffee. :)
  • Ritz Crackers, all varieties, are 2/$5. If the Ritz Bits sandwiches fall under "all varieties", then you can use the $1/2 coupon from the 03/01 SS, dollar-doubled, and get them for $1.50/box.
  • $1.50 Blue Diamond Almonds, (4/$10 on sale) when you use this printable Internet coupon for $0.50 off any Blue Diamond Almonds, which will double. There was also a $0.75/2 coupon in the 01/18 SS which would double, making them $1.75/each.

Use the General Mills coupon - which includes any Cheerios - from the 04/05 SS - $1/3, and double it, to make the cereals $2.83/each. This is not a deal, especially when you can get free Frosted Flakes.
  • Bertolli Pasta Sauce is 2/$5. Use the $0.75/1 or $0.60/1 Bertolli coupon from the 04/05 RP insert, which double automatically, earning you $1.20-$1.50 off. Final price is $1.00-$1.30/each.

Use the $0.35/1 (02/01 SS insert) to get them for $0.55 each, and as Crystal of Money Saving Mom mentioned, when you buy five, you can mail in for a $5 coupon booklet! 5 x $0.55 is $2.75...so you'd end up at least $2.25 to the good if you eventually used all of those coupons in the booklet.
  • $0.99 avocados. Guac!

When you buy $10 worth of Old El Paso, you get a free 8 oz. Giant Shredded Cheese. Limit 1 per transaction. All items must be purchased in same transaction.

Old El Paso Dinner Kids are 2/$5.
Old El Paso Salsa is 2/$5.
Old El Paso Refried Beans are 10/$10.
Old El Paso Taco Seasoning or Chili Mix are 10/$10.

There is rumored to be a peelie on Old El Paso Products for buy any 2, get a seasoning free, so if you are pursuing this deal, keep an eye out.

The Meal Deal for the week is as follows:

Buy a Wish-Bone Salad Dressing and a Bertolli Complete Dinner for two, and you get a FREE Giant European Salad (9 varieties available). All items must be purchased in one transaction.

Matchup with the Meal Deal:

Bertolli Complete Dinner for two is $6.99. Register here (use your junk email address) for a $1.50/1 frozen meal printable coupon to make them $5.49 each.

Reader Jen posted these deals in a comment on another Giant post from this week. Thanks for sharing, Jen! :)

Nature Made 100 ct. ORGANIC flaxseed capsules are on sale for $5.49 (down from $10.99) and I had two $1 NM coupons that doubled. Well, one of them did. The register does track the 4 doubler limit so my 5th was rejected (I had intended only to buy one if the printable went through but got confused). Anyway, even without the second double coupon, I got 200 for $7.88!!

And Finish dishwasher gelpacks (20 ct) are $3.50 (down from $4.99) so with the $2.50 off from last weekend's inserts they are $1!! Woohoo!

Did we miss any sweet deals? Post a comment to let us know! We relish reading each and every one. :)

Thank you for this - it certainly makes shopping easier. Plus, I probably wouldn't even have visited Giant this week what with HT's triple coupons going on.

A question: how many of the dollar doubler coupons can you use in one transaction? And I assume the $15 min is before coupons, yes? Or do you have to have $15 before each one?

Hi, Amber!

You can use up to 4 coupons per $15transaction. The fine print on the coupons says, "After all other discounts" - but in the context of the fine print, this seems to imply BonusCard discounts or other related discounts - not other coupons in your order. Of course, if we ever get word from someone that Giant officially communicates that "all other discounts" to include all other coupons, we'll mention that in the next dollar doubler post - though that would be a very strict system, and not at all attractive to couponers (they already are walking the line with all the restrictions - compared with little-to-none, say, when Shopper's or Bloom double and triple).

What does this mean? In order to avoid your other discounts taking you under $15 (say, if you had other under-$1 coupons that you would have used), hand over your four $1 coupons and your four doubler couponos right away.

We're not sure if dollar doubler coupons taking the transaction under $15 (say, after your first two doublers but before your last two) will stop the transaction in its tracks.

This is why it's useful to have some freebie filler to keep you afloat until you get your doublers through. Example: those $1.00 04/05 coupons for VitaminWater - which don't require doubling to get the item free. If you have a few of those, they can help to keep your total over $15, and ultimately when they are scanned (after your $1 and doubler coupons), they served a good purpose other than just being sweet freebies. :)

Feel free to post a comment and let us know how your trip went! :)

At SCO, once the transaction amt falls under $15, the system will not accept any more dollar doubler Qs. For example, the first time I tried this, I got $15.XX worth of products, my 1st dollar doubler coupon worked fine... but then nothing. I had to get an override, which of course took a lot of time and trouble.

BTW, last time this promo ran at my Giant I'm pretty sure the dollar doubler coupons were still available in store the week of the promotion.

Coupons.com has a $1/1 (yes, I said 1) Frosted Flakes cereal! Get to printing! ;-)

Does anyone know if printables will work with the doublers? The fine print at the bottom of the strip of coupons says "Offer applies to manufacturers' coupons clipped from magazines and/or newspapers" which seems to imply it's NOT applicable to Internet coupons - which would take out my free Frosted Flakes at the very least!
