Target FREEBIES Coupon in Today's Washington Post

An oversized Target flyer with a freebie coupon was in today's Washington Post. (Note that you may receive this ad in later Post editions this week, depending on your delivery schedule setup.) The flyer advertises $0.88/lb. for its frozen Butterball turkeys, 11/14 thorugh 11/20

The freebie coupon is for two free bags of Green Giant frozen vegetables with a grocery purchase of $25 or more. There are many competitive loss leader prices advertised on Thanksgiving staples within this ad, too, so take a look to see if you could get those at Target - enabling you to hit your $25 mark for the freebie.

$/$$ Coupons in the Mail - Target, Lands' End, Toys 'R Us!

BOOM! The holiday season has officially landed. How do I know? The COUPONS in my mail. If you're signed up to receive snail mail ads from your favorite stores and/or get a home paper delivery, you'll find some, too, I'm betting!

Here's some of what I've spotted recently:

• Target "general holiday" green Christmas tree catalogue with a $15 off $150 purchase coupon on the back
• Target "Toy Sale" catalogue with a $5 gift card with any toy purchase of $50 or more coupon on the back. There are a TON of Target toy coupons inside, too, in a coupon booklet - betting they could be combo'ed with a sale price for a good deal in some instances.
• In the Sunday ads from this past weekend: A Toys 'R Us ad featuring a coupon for a $10 gift card when you spend $75 or more
• Lands' End winter catalogue with a $10/$50 purchase coupon

Needless to say, it's time you started spending a little extra time perusing your newspapers, Sunday ads, email inboxes, and catalogues, 'cause in the next 5-7 weeks the deals are going to be SMOKIN'. Everybody wants your dollar, and they know that they'll have to compete to get it! I just love being in a buyer's market!

Heads Up for Target: Silicone Adults' and Juniors' Size Swim Caps Clearanced at $2.33/ea.!

For those of you who swim or who have kids on a swim team, you know how ridonkulously expensive swim caps can be. For me as a high school team swimmer, I could never predict whether a cap fresh out of the packaging would last me several months or break within a week or two, and the coveted silicone caps (typically the most durable and comfortable) were especially pricey. They still are at around $10 each or more!

I happened to pass by the leftover clearance swimming items in Target today and most everything there is at least half off and up to 75% off! Yay for seasonal clearance finds!

The silicone swim caps that retail just under $10 are now marked down to $2.33/ea. - a BARGAIN for these. One of the adult caps I picked up was still priced at half off, but when I put it under the price check scanner it scanned at $2.33.

Also in this end-aisle display of clearanced swim items:

• Poolside sandals or slip-on style swimming shoes
• Swimming toys/tools

Bananas $0.10/ea. at Target this Week!

One other thing I noticed at Target - the bananas are $0.10/ea. (retail: $0.19/ea.!) A 7-8 ct. bunch of bananas would cost me somewhere around $1.50-$2 at Giant, but at Target this week they're under $1! I snagged a couple of extra bunches, because I'm planning on slicing and freezing them ripe so that I can have chunks of frozen bananas to throw in smoothies. Or, you know, make 1-ingredient banana soft serve. Yum!

Today's Target Run - A Few Back-to-School Bargains

While I was a little unsettled to see the Christmas items already populating the shelves at one corner of my Target, I did notice today that opposite the Christmas stuff in the same aisle was a LOT of deeply discounted school supplies - large signs read 75% off. I scooped up:

• Some Dora the Explorer single-subject notebooks for $0.48 ea.
• Some Dora the Explorer folders for $0.24 ea.
• Some stretch fabric book covers, various styles and colors, for just $0.22/ea. (!!) Think about that price, then think about all of the pains you'd have to take to cut up a paper grocery bag for a homemade cover. At $0.22 each they'll keep well for next year!

I also spotted some Disney princess and Tinkerbell stuff, along with basics like solid color notebooks, pencils, etc., all discounted at least this much.

Next to this display were also a lot of summer-oriented objects (an outdoor "mist-blowing" fan, for example, and OFF sprays) that were significantly discounted. Do a Target run this week if you can to see if there are any seasonal-discount deals like these that may interest you!

TARGET: CHEAP Monopoly and Connect 4!

Target is running a sale on "classic games" this week for $7. If you print some Hasbro coupons on page 2 here, you could score Monopoly for $2 and Connect 4 for $3.

Sounds like a great way to stock up some kid birthday presents - or if you can fit them in Easter baskets, think games for Easter!

Super Savings Saturday: CVS and Target

I scored some super savings at CVS and Target this week that are worth sharing!

I haven't been shopping much at CVS since my toddler moved out of diapers. But this week I wanted to try to get some Huggies wipes because I keep a stash of diapers & wipes for baby shower gifts. I read that ECB holders were finding Huggies wipes coupons on the coupon printers in-store. It was true for me! A $2 Huggies wipes coupon AND a $5/$15 coupon printed. Score! I used a $3 Sensodyne toothpaste coupon, the $2 wipes coupon, a $1 off any Johnson & Johnson baby product coupon, & the $5/$15 coupon. Check out the picture above to see what I got for $3.42!

I needed a few things at Target, and I wanted to see if I could work a Kraft cheese deal I read about. It worked! I spent $1.75 on the items in the picture below. Here is what I used:
3 $2/2 Right Guard deodorant coupons
3 $1 off any Johnson & Johnson baby product manu coupons
1 $1/2 Kraft cheese coupon
2 Target $1/1 Kraft cheese coupons (only prints 1 per computer; we have 2 computers)

Trip to Target a.k.a. "Tarzhay"

Oooooweee, it was a good trip to Target this morning. I was doing a "no coupon" trip - not really planned as "no coupon"; I just happen to be a bit behind on tracking the Target deals on the blogosphere and am not back on my A-game since our baby was born. But - you can still scoop some great clearance items out there! I got some wardrobe refresher pants for my daughter now that her current ones are turning into highwater pants. As cheap or cheaper than second-hand!

Examples of what I scooped up today:

Girls' turtlenecks - marked down to $0.94!

(There were tons of these, all in a very neutral beige-ish ivory shade great for highlighting the browbone and inner corner of your eyes, in a cute little magnetically-sealing case. Wish that I had an Almay coupon for these! AFullCup's database says there are none out there, but prove me wrong, folks! I'd love to return and get this eyeshadow even more cheaply!) Thanks to a comment from Laura of Frugal Friends (muchas gracias!), I now know about a printable $1 Almay Target coupon. Make that eyeshadow $0.92!!! :) Waaaahooo!

Target brand invisible tape, $1.70-something, down to $0.24 (!)
(The cashier admitted that this came from a case that they had lost in their back room, guessing during the holidays...it took all my willpower not to buy ALL of the tape there, which was about 25 or so rolls.)

I also saw:

Girls' fleece pants, $7 marked down to $3.50 (baby through 5T)

Boys' fully-coordinated Christmas outfits (baby through 5T), including pants, layered-look vest and bow tie with collared dress shirt, priced to clear

Next time you're in Target, hit up the clearance sections to see what you can score for pennies on the dollar - even without coupons! :)

The Food Bank Challenge: Ideas for This Week on How to Stretch $10 to Donate

Gina of Moneywise Moms has started a Food Bank Challenge in the past week! She's challenging us (that would be couponers and generous-hearted folks in general) to see how far $10 of our monthly food budget can go for donation to a local food bank or charity. (Check out our post on finding your local food bank!) Gina has a fabulous Mr. Linky to get us in the collaborative spirit, too, where you can share your blog's Food Bank Challenge entry.

When I saw this challenge, my first thought was, "Ack, I just donated a couple of boxes' worth of stuff last week!" I wish that I had taken pictures. :) But that shouldn't stop me from getting another box started.

If you're up for the challenge, but aren't sure where to begin, check out this pretty painless scenario, with a Thanksgiving theme.

Head to Target, and spend:

• $1.60 for 8 cans of Del Monte vegetables, using one Target coupon and one 11/15 insert coupon (Thanks, Christy!) Make a couple of them green beans - your recipients could make green bean casserole with the next two ingredients!

Then make one other trip, to Giant:

• $3.50 for four cans of Campbell's cream of mushroom soup (buying these four will also net a $0.10 gas discount all week)
• $1.99 or less for one can of French's French Fried onions
• $2 for two bags of Stacy's Pita Chips (these are normally much more expensive!)

Baby Supplies? Wait For Target Baby Sale, Early September.

Those of us still knee deep in the land of Desitin, Gerber, and Fisher Price can appreciate the chance to stockpile some baby goods on the cheap.

Along with many of you, I received a Target coupon mailer (cue happy dance), and it advertises the upcoming baby sale during the week of September 6 through September 12 for, "...teeny weeny prices on hundreds of baby products." The coupons in my mailer are good through October 1, and so can be used during this sale. Since you can stack Target coupons with manufacturer coupons, combining the two coupon types with Target sale prices can make for some cheeeaaaap supplies, among them:

Johnson's Baby Toiletries
Aveeno Baby Toiletries
Gerber Onesies or Layette
Desitin Diaper Rash Ointment
Pampers, Huggies, and Luvs Diapers and Wipess

A Fall of Stocking Up In Preparation - by A.

I've been thinking a lot about what I need to do this fall to stock our cupboards and freezer. We are expecting our second daughter, due this December! Of course, the frugal streak in me immediately thought, "Sweet! Those girls' clothing deals snagged at Children's Place Outlet at Ralph Lauren Factory Outlet will get another round of wear!" :)

While we didn't exactly plan the pregnancy around the couponing hot streak of the year, it so conveniently happens that the months leading up to the holidays offer some of the most fertile deal-snagging ground on the couponing calendar. With the kickoff of the school year and the triple-whammy that is Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas, the deals on nonperishables and convenience foods are sure to be plentiful. I'm going to be like a crazed little squirrel, stockpiling for the winter (not to mention the weeks and weeks of fuzzy newborn days sure to accompany). It's amazing how a little time in the couponing zone can transform your outlook to strategizing months, even (occasionally) years ahead.

Example of the "years" bit: Even last winter, when I was still a few months into couponing, I did a crazy run at CVS right after Christmas, and netted over $40 worth of decorations and gift-wrap supplies for around $6, using coupons, post-Christmas clearance prices, etc. Now, even though it's August, I'm eyeing the tall pile of gift bows, wrapping paper, bendable evergreen boughs, and garland in the "Christmas corner" of our basement storage area, and I'm admittedly getting a little irrationally excited about decorating most of my downstairs this time around for $6 in change. The less money spent on the fun fluff, the more resources are available for more important priorities, like close family's gifts and giving more to your local food bank, church, and charities.

If you're new to couponing, this is a great time to enter what I so affectionately call "the fray", because September through December are sure to yield an abundance of deals:

• More special double and triple coupon deals at various grocery stores, since the stores are trying to get you in to also buy your "hosting company" and "holiday celebration" hauls while you're there.
• More convenience food coupons, sales, and resulting matchups for school lunches - prepackaged/classic lunch items like applesauce cups, juice boxes, Lunchables, soups, lunchmeats, string cheese, etc.
• A huge glut of coupons, sales, and resulting coupon matchups for baking supplies - not only baking mixes for cookies, cakes, pies, and muffins, but also from-scratch nonperishables like flour, sugar, seasonings, cookie decoration supplies, canned pumpkin, raisins, etc.!
• Also coupons, sales, and resulting matchups for nonperishable holiday classics. Green beans, cream of mushroom soup, French's onions ringing a bell for anybody? Also, cranberry sauce, stuffing mixes, mashed potatos (dry mix or frozen), etc.
• In-store freebies, especially at the drugstores like CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid. This is usually in the vein of stocking-stuffers, candy, decorations, and so on.
• Post-holiday markdowns, like:
  --Just-clearanced Halloween candy bought with still-unexpired candy coupons (think creatively...you can crumble/chop Halloween chocolate for Thanksgiving and Christmas dessert recipes)
  --Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decorations, clearanced by up to 90% (I bought photo Christmas cards at Target last year at ~$0.90/10 ct. box last year doing this...$0.09/card!)
• Holiday Hallmark deals at various locations. Shop smart with the offer terms and you can often snag cards (and animated stuffed animals) inexpensively.

Kraft Fuel For School Deals and Moneymaker

We got a great comment from reader Lisa. She said:

"Have you read about the Kellogg's Fuel for School [link inserted by us] rebate? Kellogg's has posted the rebate form online this year. If you purchase ten Kellogg's items in one transaction -- other items are also included -- you can get $10 back. So after coupons and rebate, ten boxes of Kellogg's cereal free.

Target also has a great deal right now you can conbine with this rebate. You get a $5 Target gift card for buying 5 Keebler cookies. You can print coupons online for Keebler fudge shop cookies, $1 off. There is also a $0.55 off Keebler cookies coupon. The cookies at my store are $2.54 each, so, $24.50 for ten. Less coupons - my coupons totaled $9.10 (8 @ $1, 2 @ $0.55, I used four computers), pay $15.40. Get back $10 in Target gift cards. Send in for Kellogg's rebate for $10 back. You end up getting back more than you paid, including the Target gift cards.

You have to purchase all ten items in one transaction, and you have to send in the upc codes from all the packages. "

Clearanced Starbucks - at CVS and at Target!

I did a run to CVS today - to snag the $3.49 Skintimate Shave Cream that was free after ExtraCare Bucks. Since I had a $3.98 ExtraCare Buck receipt, I needed at least $0.50 worth of filler to be able to spend my $3.98 (your total must exceed the ECBs spent). I was shocked to discover Starbucks chocolate bars priced to clear at $1.50 - and this made me very happy, as I had picked up some $1/1 Starbucks chocolate coupons from blinkies in the very same CVS store just a few weeks ago. My $0.50 filler - better than my usual $0.50 fillers for sure! If you saw the same blinkies, you can snag yourself some mocha or milk chocolate (but the dark chocolate wasn't on clearance...). I paid $0.05 after the $3.98 ECB, and earned $3.49 ECBs back. Yea!

On to Target, where I was going to try to pick up the aforementioned $4.50 Dunkin' Donuts coffee. After grabbing the coffee, I went to glance at the clearance display at the end of one of the food aisles. And what to my wondering eyes should appear...but clearanced holiday season dark chocolate raspberry Frappuccino 4-packs, discount-priced at just $2.49. I didn't have a Starbucks coupon for this (in fact, can't recall ever having seen bottled Frappuccino coupons...), but that's as cheap as I've ever seen a Frappuccino 4-pack, especially for a drink that retailed $1.50-$2.00 in single doses last fall! The packaging says that the drinks are best until May 2009. In addition, the transaction generated some sort of Target-type Catalina: a printout for a free Starbucks Pike Place coffee (up to $1.95 value, expires 05/31/09) with the purchase of any other Starbucks Pike Place coffee, at in-Target Starbucks locations. Dunkin' Donuts coffee, at $4.50/each

I realized that this matchup was possible this morning, only to have it later verified when I saw the matchup in Ginger's Attention Target Shoppers Target matchup post. Dunkin' Donuts is my favorite coffee!

Some regions appeared to have gotten $1/1 or $1.50/1 Dunkin' Donuts coupons, but our 04/05 Red Plum has $1.50/2 coupons. No biggie. When you use the $0.75/1 Target coupon, too (you can stack these), they are $4.50/bag - a pretty unbeatable price for Dunkin' Donuts. If you're going to someone else's house for Easter, bringing some Dunkin' Donuts would be a great gift for the host/hostess.

Reader Email - Harris Teeter Triple Coupons Allowing Consecutive Transactions!

We received a delightful email this weekend. (Thanks!) With our email-writer's permission, we're sharing some excerpts with you because of some useful tips:

"One tip I wanted to pass along is that that with Harris Teeter's coupon policy, a shopper is supposed to only be allowed 20 coupons per day. But most cashiers will let you split up an order if you have more than 20 coupons to use. What I do is just tell the cashier at the beginning that I have to pay for some items separately, I don't offer an explanation as to why, and they don't ask. So yesterday, when I went during their triple coupon week, I was able to use 20 coupons in the first order and 16 in the second. The store wasn't busy at all and the cashier didn't even blink about it."

So, it looks like Harris Teeter and Bloom are pretty similar. If you're hitting up the stores at a non-busy time and ask nicely, a cashier is likely to allow you to do a couple of consecutive transactions - in this way allowing you to use more than the 20 coupons limited per transaction.

Our email writer also mentioned:

"Great tip too about the [deal listed in a recent post about] Motts Applesauce at Target. I went there with the Target and Motts coupons so I could stack them (my Target had them on sale for $1.87), so with the $1.55 in coupons for each, I got 5 total for under the price for one normally. I was shocked when I went to HT to see the same apple sauce is normally $3.05 (because I had thought about not making separate trips and just using the $0.55 coupon to triple at HT and not go to Target). I was sure glad that I did stop at Target after all!"

This second part illustrates a great point: if you are willing to make even two stops at different stores during the week, you can save quite a lot more, especially when compared with using only one store's ads and coupon matchups.

Of course, the more stores you are willing to visit, the more you stand to save, but there is something to be said for conserving gas money, time, and oh yes: your sanity. :) Being especially dedicated to following deals at just two stores is a great starting point. Our email-writer later pointed out that her Target and Harris Teeter happen to be very close to each other, and this is a great way to kick off your 'two store or more' strategy; begin with the stores closest to you (and to each other!) and see what deals appeal. You'll be hedging your bets savings-wise.

Freebies and Cheapies at Target (March 2009)

Wow! I wish that there was a SuperTarget closer to me (free artisan bread, anyone?). But there are still plenty of weekly Target specials worth checking out my regular Target. Thanks to Money Saving Mom for the deal accumulation.
