Ravelry - a Community for Needlework, with LOTS of free patterns available!

Those of you who have even a passing interest in needlework will love Ravelry.com. It is an online community where knitters and crocheters commune and share patterns. While some patterns are for sale, there are many, MANY free downloads. How cool that all of these needleworkers are willing to share their designs for free! The great part is that you can sort the designs based on degree of difficulty, yarn weight, needle gauge, item type (hat, shawl, etc.), and other factors - so you can find free knitting and crochet designs of exactly what you're hoping to create.

Now, all you need is to use a 40% off or 50% off Michael's coupon (rumore has it that Jo-Ann accepts Michael's coupons as well) to buy yourself some yarn cheap - or search some out on freecycle or by thrift. Cheap yarn + free designs = frugal gift ideas!
