Cheap, Healthy Weekend, 03/13-03/16

Before the weekend kicks off, we try to post a list of healthy eats deals - including produce, lean meats, and coupon matchups on healthier items. This can slash your produce and meat budget, even without a huge coupon stash, so look out for Cheap, Healthy Weekend in the future. You will also see a bit of coverage on what health benefits certain items have to offer - like links to what has to say!

Feel free to contribute to the Cheap Healthy Weekend lovin' with ideas of your own by adding a comment! :)

Your Cheap, Healthy Weekend Shopping List,

Giant (servin' up the fiber this weekend, we see)
Remember that Giant takes Safeway coupons now! Thanks to some eagle-eyed readers who confirmed this in their locations.
  • $1.77/lb. asparagus
  • $0.25/lb. (half-priced) cabbage, in honor of St. Patrick's Day. See cabbage recipes here for inspiration. Fat Free Vegan recently posted an interesting-looking (and also frugality-friendly) cabbage and white bean stew recipe.
  • 2/$4 Cereal includes Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size. 1/1 Mini-Wheats Little Bites (not sure if this is same as bite size - 02/22 RP), makes them potentially $1.
Shopper's Food Warehouse
See details on SFW doubling all coupons up to $1.00 in value this weekend!

  • Over the Moon Milk, 1% or Skim, half gallon - $3.49 before $1 03/08 SS coupon, after: $1.49 (compare with regular half gallon of either, $1.99, or $3.49 for a whole gallon of regular milk!)
  • 4-pack Activia with Fiber, or Dannon Lite'n'Fit Six Packs, or DanActive 4-pack drinks, all $2.79, use $1 coupons from 03/08 SS, and get them for $0.79 - ~$0.20 each in the 4-packs, and $0.13 each for the Dannon L&F!
  • FREE cereal from 03/12 Washington Post, page A15. Go for something high in fiber like Mini-Wheats, or some low-fat granola to sprinkle on your cheap yoghurt (above).
  • Success Rice, $2.19, $0.19 after $1 coupon (pick brown rice).
  • Ken's Salad Dressings (spritzers), $2.75, $0.75 after coupon
Wishbone Salad Dressings (spritzers), similar deal to Ken's with recent $1 Wishbone coupon. 1-5 calories per spritz!
  • Cascadian Farm frozen organic veggies - the sweet corn or the sweet peas are the cheapest at $2.19, and the $1 coupon makes them just $0.19/bag!
  • Sargento Salad Finishers, 2/$4. If you have the 02/01 SS insert $0.75 coupon, these are $0.50 off. Better yet, use the upcoming 03/15 insert's $1/1 coupon to make them FREE!
(Thanks to Mommy Making Money for the matchup mojo!)
