Late Commentary on Giant Triplers and Catalinas - Reader Tips!

We got a fantastically detailed email from reader Trisha regarding her Giant experiences this week. Trisha, thank you for taking the time to write and share the bounty of details!!

Even though the sale prices no longer apply, some of this info may very well come in handy in future Giant deals, so we're going to loosely summarize Trisha's details here. (To her credit, she wrote us days ago, but we just noticed the email nestled amongst blog administrivia emails, so the delay is our bad!) The current week's deals can be seen at our post here.

For those lucky enough (MD-area this time) to have access to tripler coupons:

• The tripler coupons were not in the ad that Trisha received in her flyer in the mail - but they were in the ad pictured online that was associated with her store. When Trisha got to Giant, the in-store ad had the triplers in it! Yeah!
• Rules are as follows: you can use all 5 triplers at once, any coupon up to $0.99.
• Trisha's cashier had no idea how to apply them, and tried to tell her that she could only use one coupon/transaction. Trisha said, "It says right on the coupon you can use them all at once, so I told her that. She had no idea how to work them, so I encouraged her to scan the tripler and then scan my coupon. It worked perfectly."
• The triplers also say that they will not give overage, but will give the item for free. In any case, Trisha bought the Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner (2/$4) and used the $0.75 with a tripler and it gave her overage.
• Unlike the doubler coupons, you do not have to have a minimum purchase for these coupons.
• Some other tripler coupon ideas (sale prices now vary):
Pepperidge Farm Buns & Breads (2/$5 - a common sale price), $0.55 coupon (05/17 SS for buns, 06/14 SS for bread), makes the bread or buns $1.35/ea.
Athenos Feta Cheese - $2.69, $0.50 coupon (05/31 SS), makes the feta $1.19 ea. Sweet deal! These are for the smaller fetas found in the dairy aisle.
Special K Chocolate Pretzel Bars - 2/$5, $0.75 printable coupon [we couldn't find the source of this one...maybe a printable no longer available?], makes the box $0.25.

Trisha had some other valuable info on a couple of Catalina deals:

• There is another Catalina deal that is running on Kraft Mac'n'Cheese in in some locations. The offer terms: Buy Kraft Macaroni & Cheese during purchase dates and SAVE up to $2.00 With Coupon off your Next Order. Purchase Dates - Buy Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Between 7/3 - 7/26. Buy (4) & Get $1.00 off...OR Buy (5) & get 1.50 off...OR Buy (6) or More & Get $2.00...Coupon Off Your Next Shopping Order.
All items must be purchased in one shopping order. Limited to Product in Stock. No Cash Back. Offer Expiers 7/26/09.

For example, Giant had Kraft Mac N Cheese on sale for $1.00/box. There are also the Buy 3, Get 1 Free coupons out right now (06/28 SS, or printable here). So, with the Catalina, coupon, and sale, it makes it $0.50/box. Sweet deal, Trisha! She noted that her Catalina did not print for this, but the kind lady at customer service gave her $2.00 instead.

• The Edy's/Eskimo Pie deal didn't print Trisha's Catalina for $4 off your next purchase either (It didn't print out for her last time they ran this deal, too). Again, the nice lady in Customer Service simply gave her $4.00, but Trisha mentions this so that those expecting Catalinas - remember to double check to make sure that they print - otherwise, consult customer service!

5 Reasons to Visit Giant This Week, 07/24-07/30

Let's get this party started:

1. Meat Buys:
$1.79/lb. Top Round London Broil - BIG discount here, saving $3.20/lb. I have a feeling that a certain crock pot will be meeting the acquaintance of one of these here London Broil recipes.
$1.99/lb. for 80% lean ground beef or Super G Italian Dinner Links (save at least $0.50/lb.)
$0.99/lb. Chicken Drumsticks or Thighs or Super G Whole Chicken Twin Packs. Gina recently posted a comment with a wicked-looking Coq Au Vin crockpot recipe (thanks!), and this looks like a good sale to try it out.
2. Northwest Cherries, $1.49/lb. (half price, basically). These were pretty tasty at my Giant the last time they were on sale a couple of weeks ago - sweet and not too tart. They lasted a good couple of weeks in the fridge, too.
3. Marie Callender's Dinners or Pot Pies are 5/$10. There was a $1/1 Marie Callender's Pasta Al Dente coupon in the 05/17 SS that would make these $1 each. If you go to http://www.smartsource.com/ and select Marie Callender's from the upper-right pull down menu, you will get a $0.75/1 coupon, which doubled automatically, would make the frozen meals just $0.50 each! There may have also been a coupon in the June All You magazine.
4. Palermo's Pizza is 2/$9. Use this $1/1 printable coupon to get it for $3.50 each.
5. Ocean Spray Cranberry or Grapefruit varieties, 3/$5. Use the $0.55/1 grapefruit coupon (05/31 RP), which should make these just $0.55/jug!

Here are other Giant coupon matchups and deals for the week of 07/24-07/30.

Healthy Choice Entrees are 5/$10. Use this printable $1/2 or this printable $1/2 (they might be the same; not sure) to make them $1.50/each. It also looks as though there may have been some Healthy Choice coupons in recent issues of All You magazine.

Turkey Hill Ice Cream (all flavors) is 2/$5. If your 05/03 RP insert had a $1/1 coupon, this would make each tub $1.50 - not too shabby.

Hillshire Farm Deli Select Lunch Meats are 3/$10 ($3.33 each). Use the $0.65/2 coupon from the 06/07 RP to make them $2.68 each.

Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage is 2/$5. Use the $1/2 coupon from the 06/07 RP or the 06/21 SS inserts to make them $2/each.

Yoplait Yoghurt is 10/$6. Use the $0.40/6 coupons from the 05/31, 06/07, and 06/12 inserts (doubles automatically) to get 6 for $2.80 ($0.46 each).

Activia 4-packs are $2 each. The 05/10 SS had a $1/1 coupon that would make these $1 per 4 pack ($0.25/cup).

Sabra Hummus is 2/$7. This printable $1.50/1 coupon will make it $2/each.

Hot Pockets Varieties are 5/$10. Use the coupon in the 04/26 SS (values vary) to get them as low as $0.50/each. Use the $0.50/1 from the 05/17 SS to get them for $1 each.

Palermo's Pizza is 2/$9. Use this $1/1 printable coupon to get it for $3.50 each.

Freschetta Pizza is $5.99. Use the $1.50/2 coupon from the 06/21 SS to make it $5.24.

Birds Eye Veggies are 4/$5. The August copy of All You magazine had a $1/3 coupon, which would get you three for $2.75.

Lactaid Milk is $5.49. You might be able to get a Buy 2, Get 1 Free printable coupon by registering on the Lactaid site.

Cabot Bar Cheese is 2/$5. There was a $1/3 coupon in the 06/21 SS that would make the cheese $2.17/each.

Rice Dream non-dairy beverage is $3.99. Register here to get a printable $0.75/1 coupon that will probably make it $2.49.

Rold Gold Pretzels are 2/$5. Use the $1/2 from the 06/14 SS.

Fruit2O 6-packs are 2/$4. Use the $0.55/1 printable coupon available here (likely to double) to get a 6-pack for $0.90.

Emerald Nuts are $3.33. Use the $1.50/2 (05/17 SS) coupon on the glazed variety to get them for $2.68 each.

Planters Premium Nuts are $4.99. Use the $1/2 coupon from the 06/28 SS to make them $4.49 each.

Wrigley's or Extra Gum 3-packs are BOGO. If your Giant combines BOGO promos with BOGO coupons (mine - *sob* - doesn't) there was a BOGO Wrigley's coupon in the 06/28 SS. There was also a $1/1 in the 07/12 SS (use two since you're getting two!).

Fruit2O Essentials 18 oz. bottles are 10/$10. Go here to get a printable $1/2 coupon for the Essentials, making them $0.50/each.

Betty Crocker Suddenly Salad is 2/$3. Use the $0.50/2 coupon from the 06/28 SS to make them 2/$2.

Uncle Ben's Ready Rice is 2/$4. Use the $1/3 coupon from the 06/28 RP to get $0.33/each ($1.66 each final price).

McCormick Grill Mates are 2/$4. Use the $0.50/1 coupon from the 04/12 insert or the 05/03 RP to get them for $1/each.

Kellogg's PopTarts are 2/$4. Use the $0.55/1 8-ct. (06/07 RP) or the $1/2 (06/07 RP). Lowest possible price: $0.90/box.

Twizzlers are 2/$4. Use the $1/3 (06/28 SS) to get them for $1.66 each.

Deal: Buy 2 Aquafina 24-packs of water, get 2 Aquafina FlavorSplash 6-packs FREE. Must be purchased in same transaction.

Other notable deals: Frugally Blonde's Liz noted earlier this week that some Giant emails are offering "loadable" discounts and deals for your Giant BonusCard. Sign up online to make sure that your email account and BonusCard number are connected. All right!

Also, milk continues to be Buy 4, Get 1 Free. Gina of Moneywise Moms mentioned that the free milk counts toward your next round of 4 milks. While regular milk still hovers just above $2/gallon at Wegman's and Sam's Club, buying half-gallons of organic milk (~$3.69/each) would make it cheaper than buying entire gallons of organic milk ($5.79/each), by around $0.20/gallon, assuming the free milk feeds into the next round of milks. Your actual aggregate discount depends on however much milk you buy before the promo ends August 20th.

Did you spot any other supercalifrugalistic deals or coupon matchups at Giant? Post a comment to let everybody else know! :)

Two FREE Starbucks Recipes - Banana Walnut Bread and Outrageous Oatmeal Cookies

Did you hear the exciting news? Starbucks has just released recipes for two of its hottest treats. It's part of a campaign to increase awareness that Starbucks recipes now contain:

• No artificial flavors
• No artificial trans fats
• No artificial dyes
• No high-fructose corn syrup

Add these to your recipe bookmarks of DIY frugal treats for future reference. I'll bet they both freeze pretty well, too.

Banana Walnut Bread

Outrageous Oatmeal Cookies

Enjoy some of these with a home-brewed cup of coffee, making your java and treat together well under a buck. (Compare with $4-$6 in the restaurant!)

NYT: 101 Simple Salads for the Season

I'm a big fan of the New York Times' "The Minimalist" feature. Less work, and more often than not, frugalicious because you're cooking seasonally and from scratch!

Yesterday Monsieur Minimalist (AKA Mark Bittman) published a list of 101 Simple Salads for the Season, which arrived just in time for high tomato / cucumber season. This is a great followup to the 2007 lists - 101 Simple Meals Ready in 10 Minutes or Less and 101 Simple Appetizers in 20 Minutes or Less, and the 2008 list 101 20-Minute Dishes for Inspired Picnics.

Most recipes in the 101 Salads list have just a few ingredients, and are vegan or vegan-adaptable.

Some that caught my eye:

"3. A nice cucumber salad: Slice cucumbers thin (if they’re fat and old, peel and seed them first), toss with red onions and salt, then let sit for 20 to 60 minutes. Rinse, dry, dress with cider vinegar mixed with Dijon mustard; no oil necessary.
...
6. Sichuan slaw: Toss bean sprouts, shredded carrots and celery, minced fresh chili, soy sauce, sesame oil and a bit of sugar. Top with chopped peanuts and chopped basil, mint and/or cilantro. (The full trio is best.)
...
9. Chop or slice jicama (or radishes or kohlrabi) and mango and mix with coconut milk, lime juice, curry powder and cilantro or mint."

Check out the whole list of 101 Seasonal Salads for a burst of summer inspiration!

A.'s New Frugality Booster

This past weekend, we spent a lot of time with family, and while everybody was getting together, we also celebrated my summer birthday. Behold the newest weapon in my frugality arsenal:This, ladies and gents, is my new crock pot (or to be trademark correct: slow cooker) - a birthday gift from my inlaws. My first crock pot was also inherited from my mother-in-law - an early 1970s-era workhorse (that is: "Old School"). But the new birthday crock pot has all manner of bells and whistles. At 6 quarts' capacity, it can cook two smallish chickens - or 7.5 lbs. of pretty much anything (Helllooooooo freezing extra meals!). It has a clip-tight gasket lid for transport. It even has a thermometer probe option that allows you to put the thermometer right to the center of your meat and specify a minimum temp, so once your meat hits the temp, the cooker goes to "warm". Is that not pretty close to rocket science? I told the my husband that I didn't care if it was the middle of summer; I was going to try out some slow cooker meals this week if I can manage it. With cheaply bought Giant Super G chicken breast and canned beans and corn, I'm thinking some type of white chicken chili sounds good.

Anybody care to share slow cooker recipes while I'm in the zone? :)

Giant Matchups for Reported Tripler Coupons for MD-Area Giants

Reader Trisha posted a comment letting us know that her MD-area Giant had 5 tripler coupons which could be used to triple any 5 coupons valued $0.99 and under. Sweet! How we wish we could get our mitts on those. :)

We posted some potential matchups for triplers under her comment; if you've found other tripler deals feel free to add them to this comments page so that others can profit from your shared wisdom and experience. :)

I mean...$0.35 jugs of Ocean Spray Pomegranate juices? $0.25 six-packs of yoghurt? Definitely worth perusing if your ad has those tripler coupons.

Thanks for sharing, Trisha!! :)

5 Reasons to Visit Giant This Week, 07/17-07/23

No word yet of any new $/$$ Giant coupons (though we certainly welcome your comments with info if you know of a fresh one!) - so if you have any left (they expire tomorrow 07/16), use'em. :)

Here are the top 5 reasons we spotted to get your cabooses to Giant this week:

1. Super G Boneless Chicken Breast is $1.79/lb. - about as cheap as it gets, so stock up if you need it!

2. Strawberries are $2.99/2 lbs. (~$1.50/lb.). If memory serves me, this is the cheapest strawberry price at Giant yet this year. Check out this yummy-looking strawberry vanilla jam recipe from last week's Post! Three ingredients; looks pretty simple.

3. Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Drinks (Red, White, or Cranberry Juice Cocktail, all varieties, 64 oz.) are 2/$4. If the $0.55/1 flavor-specific coupons from the 04/19 (Pomegranate) and the 05/31 (Grapefruit) RP inserts apply, you could be getting these for as low as $0.90/bottle!

4. Breyers Disney Lowfat Yoghurt 6-packs are 2/$5. Use the $0.75/1 (05/17 SS) to make them just $1 each - ~$0.17/cup!

5. Stonyfield Farm Fat Free Organic Yoghurts are $0.75 each. Use the $0.50/3 printable here to make get three to the tune of $0.42/each.

Other Giant coupon matchups and deals that we spotted for the week of 07/17-07/23:

Semi-Boneless Rib Steak is $5.99/lb. (Save at least $4/lb.)

Fresh Pork Spareribs are $1.99/lb. (Save $2/lb.)

General Mills Cereals (Kix, Cheerios, Cocoa Puffs, Golden Grahams, or Trix) are $2.22. There was a $1/2 coupon in the 07/12 SS that would make them $1.72/box. The 06/14 SS had a $1/2 Cheerios coupon (expires 07/25), which would also make the Cheerios $1.72/each. This might be a $1/1 printable Cheerios coupon (caveat printor: haven't had a chance to try printing it yet), which would make the cheerios $1.22/box - but it's an 8.9 oz. box - pretty small.

Mangos, 10/$10, or $1 each.

Ball Park Beef or Meat Franks, BOGO (in other words, two for $4.49). Use the $1/2 coupon (06/28 RP, expires 07/25) to get two packs for $3.49.

Cucumbers, 2/$1.

Sweet White Corn, 8/$1.88.

Cantaloupes, 2/$5.

Lean Cuisine Entrees or Stouffers Entrees are 4/$10. There was a $1/4 coupon from the 05/03 SS. Use the Buy 2, get 1 free from the July issue of All You magazine to get three for $5 ($1.66 each). I'm not sure if the terms of the All You coupon excludes the use of the $1/4 coupon in combination.

DiGiorno Flatbread Meltsare 2/$6. If you use the coupon for $1/1 flatbread (05/17 or 05/26 SS), you get them for $2. There is also a printable $1/1 available here.

Edwards Single Pie Slices are 2/$5. Use the $0.75/1 coupon (05/10 SS - doubles automatically) to get them for $1 each.

California Pizza Kitchen or DiGiorno Pizzas are 2/$10. Use the $1/1 CPK coupon (05/17 SS) or the $1.50/1 DiGiorno Crispy Flatbread Pizza (05/17 SS) to get them as low as $3.50/each.

Red Baron Deep Dish Pizza or Thin Crust Singles are 2/$6. Use the $0.75/1 from the 05/10 SS (doubles automatically) to get them for $1.50/each.

Daisy Sour Cream, 2/$5. Use the $0.60/1 (05/31 RP, doubles automatically) to get it for $1.30 each.

Tropicana Pure Premium 89 oz. is $4.49. Use the $1/2 coupon from the 05/03 RP to make it $4 each.

Over the Moon Milk half-gallons are 2/$6. Use the $1/1 printable here or the $1/1 from the 05/17 SS to get it for $2 each. Read our Over the Moon review here!

Nature's Promise Soy Milk, 4/$5 ($1.25 each).

Boca Burgers are 2/$6. Use the $1/2 from the 06/07 SS to make them $2.50.

There is another $0.10 off gas deal when you buy certain 4 ice cream products. If we have time later, we may post matchups, if there are any, so check back with tihs post.

At last, but certainly not the least, when you buy 4 gallons of milk (or half gallons of organic and specialty milks), you get the fifth free (a coupon will print out at the bottom of your receipt at checkout).

Did you spot any other sweet deals or matchups? Post a comment to let us know! :)

Kraft Fuel For School Deals and Moneymaker

We got a great comment from reader Lisa. She said:

"Have you read about the Kellogg's Fuel for School [link inserted by us] rebate? Kellogg's has posted the rebate form online this year. If you purchase ten Kellogg's items in one transaction -- other items are also included -- you can get $10 back. So after coupons and rebate, ten boxes of Kellogg's cereal free.

Target also has a great deal right now you can conbine with this rebate. You get a $5 Target gift card for buying 5 Keebler cookies. You can print coupons online for Keebler fudge shop cookies, $1 off. There is also a $0.55 off Keebler cookies coupon. The cookies at my store are $2.54 each, so, $24.50 for ten. Less coupons - my coupons totaled $9.10 (8 @ $1, 2 @ $0.55, I used four computers), pay $15.40. Get back $10 in Target gift cards. Send in for Kellogg's rebate for $10 back. You end up getting back more than you paid, including the Target gift cards.

You have to purchase all ten items in one transaction, and you have to send in the upc codes from all the packages. "

Lisa, thank you so much for keeping us all abreast of this potential moneymaker. :) On a very related note, Money Saving Mom posted a list today of Target/Kellogg's Fuel for School scenarios that you might find helpful while researching this. Feel free to post a comment with your experiences and victories using this deal!

GREAT Freebie - TIGI Lip Gloss Palette, Ships Free, Too!

It was via Money Saving Mom's post earlier today (Thank you!!) that we were alerted to the existence of a GREAT freebie - a FREE TIGI "Girls Just Want It" lip palette, which ships free, too! No credit card required, but you must make an account. (Consider using your junk email.)

It took me for-ev-er to get this deal to load page-to-page. Fortunately I had other things that I could accomplish while occasionally checking in on the status of the freebie's checkout - so you know that a lot of folks are on the site right now claiming this awesome freebie. Go now if you intend to claim one of your own. Might as well pop yourself some popcorn or make up a warm mug of something - get comfortable - while you're at it. :)

Colors in the lip gloss palette vary a nice spectrum from nudes to berries, so even if you don't want it for yourself, consider it a great item for your gifting stash for a future gift-giving occasion. Also, check out our recent tutorial on how to use free cosmetics in creative ways.

5 Reasons to Visit Giant (aka Stop and Shop) This Week, 07/10-07/16

The $5/$15 meat coupon is still out there busting a move. Although links directly to it may or may not work, you can access it right from the Giant site (click the link for more info). Thanks again to those who helped us navigate around this glitch.

Here are 5 Reasons to Visit Giant this week:

1. Meat Reasons! Combo these cheap prices with the $5/$15 coupon for maximum savings. Petite sirloin steak is half price at $2.99/lb. Make some chipotle lime butter to accompany.
Super G Chicken Drumstick and Thighs OR a Whole Chicken are $0.79/lb. (save $0.70/lb.). I've only ever seen these lower at $0.69/lb., so consider this a stock-up price.
See our chicken roasting ideas here!
Center cut pork loin chops are $1.99/lb. (save $2.00/lb.).

2. Blueberries galore at $1.25/pint!

3. Coke 2-liters, $1 each when you buy 4 and one of those must be a Sprite or Sprite Zero. Limit 1 offer per transaction.

4. Kellogg's Cereal (Special K Cinnamon Pecan, Special K Blueberry, Corn Flakes Honey, Froot Loops, or Frosted Flakes), 2/$4. Coupons that apply:
$1/1 Kellogg's All Bran, Special K, or Raisin Bran Cereal, 06/17 (Final price = $1/box)
$1/1 Kellogg's Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, Cocoa Krispies, Corn Pops, or Apple Jacks (Final price = $1/box)

5. Dannon Yoghurt is 20/$10 ($0.50/each). Use the $0.60/6 or other coupons from the 05/03 or 06/21 SS inserts - the $0.60/6 will double automatically since it's under $1, giving you $1.20 off 6, final price $0.30/cup.

Other deals and Giant coupon matchups that we spotted for the week of 07/10-07/16:

There is a deal for an extra $0.10 off gas this week when you buy any 4 participating items, listed in-ad. The tiny print goes on to say that the only Giant locations where gas is sold (ergo - where this deal is redeemable?) in Pasadena and Lusby, MD, and Celebrate Virginia Parkway in Fredericksburg, VA. (Thanks to Nicole who commented last time, alerting us to the new Fredericksburg location!)
Cheapest way to work this deal: Buy 4 Fuses or SmartWaters ($4 total). If you pump at least 40 gallons of gas this week at these locations - not hard to do if you have 2 or more cars in your family - you'll have "paid" for the drinks, assuming that you don't have much cheaper gas available nearby.

Buy 4, save $4 on Chex Mix Bars, Fiber One Bars, or Nature Valley Granola Bars. Register to become part of the Pillsbury Community here, and get printable coupons for $0.60/2 Chex Mix , $0.50/1 Nature Valley selected flavors, or $0.40/1 Nature Valley any flavor. With the $0.50/1 coupon, you could save up to $2/box on this deal...not too bad! Other coupons: $0.75/2 Nature Valley (05/31 SS) or $1/1 Yoplait Yoghurt when you buy any Nature Valley Granola Bars, 06/14 SS.

Feel free to post comments with other deals and matchups that you've spotted! :)

Today's 07/08 Arby's Wednesday Freebie

This one isn't quite as good of a value as some of the other Arby's Wednesday freebies, but if you're already planning a fast lunch out today, it's still a freebie! If you're into orange creamsicle flavors, it should really hit the spot:

FREE Orange Cream Swirl milkshake at participating Arby's locations when you buy any sandwich. (Please call your nearest location to find out if they are participating in this summer's Wednesday freebies.)

Check out the intrepid Mommy's Wish List for a complete listing of what's FREE at Arby's this summer on Wednesdays. Thanks, Lea Ann!

Stonyfield Products Rewards Club Online (Organic Dairy Rewards!)

Have you tried the Oikos Greek yoghurt? The honey flavor is really yummy - and the $1/1 coupons that have popped up every few months in the inserts often results in free or near-free yoghurt during coupon doubling specials.

Besides the couponing deals, I frequently buy the ~$3.50 quarts of Stonyfield Farm organic yogurt (especially when Dannon or Yoplait aren't on sale with coupon) and divvy it up over the week, sometimes mixing portions with jam, honey, molasses, and/or vanilla extract.

I also have been known to buy the odd half gallons of Stonyfield organic milk when I make a trip to Sam's Club (~$3.12/each) as I figure the $0.55 extra spent on organic milk is better than me making another trip to another grocery store (nearby Giant for $5.79/gallon organic milk, or more-distant Wegman's for the $5.39/gallon organic milk) - because I would almost definitely be tempted to get more than $0.55 of something else that I wasn't planning on buying. :)

That said, I was delighted to read (thanks, Freebies4Mom!) that Stonyfield Farm dairy products offering an online rewards program. Sweet! It may take some time depending on my Stonyfield buying patterns, but I'll slowly but surely earn some rewards, and they mail the rewards to you free, just like with Pampers rewards.

GIANT: new $5/$15 meat purchase coupon!

As if there weren't enough reasons already to visit Giant this week, check it out!

A new $5/$15 meat purchase coupon is out, and it's good from July 6 - 16! It could make for some cheap chicken or pork this week, or something else next week. My local Giant usually puts meats on sale on Monday mornings as they may be at their "sell by" date. So you can bet I'll be there bright & early tomorrow morning. Yahoo!

Thanks to NovaThrifty for the heads-up!

5 Reasons to Visit Giant This Week, 07/03-07/09

It's Dollar Doubler time at Giant this coming week! There are 4 dollar doubler coupons in your Giant ad (though probably not included with the ads in-store, so hang on to your mailed ads!). These coupons, when coupled with a $1-valued ("starts-with-a-5"/doublable manufacturer coupon), will get you an extra $1 off. Your total must be above $15 for the Giant system to accept your doubler coupons. Some potential freebies here, so have a gander at the matchups.

Here are 5 little inspirations for getting yourself to Giant this week:

1. 4-day sale. These deals continue from this past week:

Half-price $4.99 Porterhouse of T-Bone Steak, the 60% off $1.99/lb. pork chops, or the $0.99/lb. chicken drumsticks or thighs. The $5/$15 coupon will have expired by today, 07/02, though, so consider getting to Giant before Thursday's out to get the additional discount on the meats.

Sweet White Corn, 12 for $1.99. Roast it in-husk for a quick, tasty version!

$3.88 watermelons, the cheapest watermelon price at Giant so far this year.

$2.20 for 12-packs of Coke products. You must by 5 ($11 total) to get this price.

Deer Park 24-packs are $3.88 (though Sam's Club has 30 packs of Nestle water for less than this, so it's not a "deal" deal).

Get these deals before the last day, July 6.

2. Tribe Hummus is 5/$10 ($2/each). Use the printable coupons (use brand menu to scroll for Tribe and Tribe Organic) for $0.55/any or $0.75/organic (these should each double automatically). Lowest possible price: $0.50/each.

3. Hot Pockets (all varieties, it seems) are 5/$10. Use the $1/1 Panini coupon (values vary regionally) from the 04/26 SS, and dollar double it, to get them for FREE! (Anything less than $1 will double automatically.) 05/17 SS had a $0.50/1 Lean Pockets coupon that will make them $1/each.

4. Kashi GoLean Cereal (original or Crunch!) is 2/$5. Use the printable $1.50/1 coupon here to make it just $1/box – very cheap for this.

5. Kettle Chips are 2/$5. Sign up here (use your junk email address) to get a $1/1 coupon, which dollar doubled, would make them $0.50/bag!

Here are other Giant coupon matchups (including dollar doubler matchups) and deals that we spotted for the coming week of 07/03-07/09.

The ongoing discount certificates offer. Get up to 20% off a future shopping order! Between June 26 and July 30, every $1 you spend at Giant with your BonusCard will translate to 1 Extra Rewards point earned. Go to giantfood.com/extrarewards to activate your rewards. You can elect to "cash in" your points at any time at this link - cashing in 250 of your points will result in a 5% savings certificate printed out during your next cheeckout, good for a future transaction. 450 points = 10%, 600 points = 15%, and 800 points = 20% savings certificate.

• Pork Spareribs, $1.99/lb. (save at least $2/lb.)

• Split Chicken Breast, $0.99/lb. (save at least $2/lb.)

• Northwest Cherries, $1.57/lb. (save at least $2.42/lb.) I have a feeling I'm going to be eating a lot of these in the coming week. J

• Breyers Ice Cream, 2/$5, but there might be a $1/2 coupon in the 05/17 RP (though this coupon could be regional). If you have it, and dollar double it, it will make the ice cream $1.50/each.

• Buy any two Lay's or Tostitos Bags (excludes Baked, Light, Organic, Kettle, and Fmaily Size) and get a 24 oz. jar of Tostitos FREE. If you have the $1/2 Lay's potato chips coupon from the July edition of All You magazine, you can dollar double it with this deal. The chips typically run around $4/bag, so you'd get two bags of potato chips and some salsa for about $6. There was also a coupon for $1 off Frito Lay Snacks, any variety, 9 oz. or larger, AND a Frito Lay Dip, any variety 9.5 oz. or larger jar, in the 06/28 SS – though I'm not sure if the salsa you'd buy for the Giant offer counts as a dip. Anybody want to post feedback on that?

• Bounty, 15 pack, $11.99. Use the $0.50/1 from the 06/21 SS (doubles automatically) to get it for $10.99.

• Tide 2X detergent, $11.99, but $11.29 after $0.35/1 coupon from the 06/07 P&G.

• Pampers Jumbo Packs of Swaddlers or Cruisers are $8.99. Use the $1/1 coupon from the 06/07 P&G, and dollar double it, to get them for $6.99, a range of $0.19-$0.30 each, depending on the size you're buying. Not too shabby – and they count toward your BonusCard Extra Rewards before July 30! If you have a friend with a baby shower coming up, Swaddlers are a great gift – and at $6.99/each, a couple of packs is still under $15! I tend to buy the size 2 Swaddlers for showers so that if the baby is big or grows fast, the diapers will all be used (also to avoid too many newborn sizes since other folks give diapers too).

• Perdue Perfect Portions Boneless Chicken Breasts, $7.99. Use the $0.75/1 coupon from the 05/17 RP (doubles automatically) to get it for $6.49, but remember that this is still $4.32/lb. (!).

• Buitoni Filled Pasta, all varieties, $6.99 for 20 oz. packages. The 06/21 SS had a coupon for $1/any Buitoni pastas or sauces, and there is probably a printable $1/one available here. Dollar double them to get the big packages for $4.99 each.

• Newman's Own Thin'n'Crispy Pizza is 2/$10. Use the printable $1/1 coupon (05/31 RP), and dollar double it, to make the pizzas just $3/each. Printable $1/1 available here.

• Starbucks Ice Cream, 2/$6. Use the $1/1 printable from coupons.com or the $1/1 from the 06/21 SS – dollar double it – to get the ice cream for $1 each! Sweeeeet.

• Ben & Jerry's ice cream is 2/$6. There was a $1/2 coupon on smartsource.com for Ben & Jerry's which would make it $2 each.

• Lean Cuisine Entrees or Stouffers Entrees are 4/$10. Use the $1/4 coupon from the 05/03 SS; dollar doubled it will make the Lean Cuisines $2 each. OR use the Buy 2, get 1 free from the July issue of All You magazine to get three for $5 ($1.66 each). I'm not sure if the terms of the All You coupon excludes the use of the $1/4 coupon in combination.

• Tyson Any'tizers, boxed, 2/$6. Use the $0.55/1 from the 05/10 SS to make them $1.90/bag.

• Barber Foods Chicken Entrees are $3.99. Go to smartsource.com and get a printable $1/1 coupon (use the brand menu to scroll for Barber), and dollar double it, to get the entrees for $1.99.

• Reddi-Wip is 2/$5, and the $0.50/1 coupon from the 06/21 SS will double automatically, making it $1.50/each.

• Pirate's Booty snacks are 2/$5. Use the $1/2 coupon from the 06/07 SS (for tings or puffs), and dollar double it, to get them for $1.50/bag.

• Nature's Path Organic Frosted Toaster Pastries are 2/$4 (I think these are normally close to $4/each!).

• Dunkin' Donuts coffee is $6.99. Use the $1/1 coupon (06/28 RP), dollar doubled, to make it $4.99 each.

• Keebler E.L. Fudge or Fudge Shoppe or Dipping Delights Cookies are $2.99. Use the $1/2 printable Fudge Shoppe currently available from coupons.com to make the cookies $1.99 each.

• Blue Diamond Oven Roasted Almonds are 2/$7. Use the $0.75/1 coupon from the 06/14 SS (doubles automatically) to make the nuts $1.50 each.

• Planters Dry Roasted or Cocktail Peanuts are $1.99. If you printed the $1/1 from coupons.com that was available in June, you could possibly get these FREE! The $1/2 coupon from the 06/28 SS makes these $1 each.

• Jack Link's Beef Jerky is 2/$10. There was a BOGO coupon in the July issue of All You magazine, making them $2.50/each.

• Bush's Baked Beans are 3/$5. There is a printable coupon available from this car racing site (but weirdly, not its source site, coupons.com) for $1/2 Bush's baked beans, which, if dollar doubled, would make them $0.66/each.

• Zatarain's Rice is 3/$5. If you use the $0.75/2 coupon from the 06/07 RP (doubles automatically), you can get them for $0.91/box.

• Wishbone dressings are 2/$5. Use the coupons from the 06/28 RP (values go as high as $1 regionally) to get them for as low as $0.50/each. There is also a $0.75/1 printable available here which should double automatically, making the dressings $1/each.

• Pillsbury Brownie Mixes are 10/$10. If the Reduced Sugar variety falls under this, you can use the $0.35/1 coupon (05/17 RP) to get them as low as $0.30/each.

• Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil (17 oz.) is $5.99. Use the $1/1 coupon from coupons.com, dollar doubled, to make it $3.99.

• Hellmann's Mayo squeeze bottles are 2/$5. Use the $0.60/1 coupon (06/28 RP) to make it $1.30 each.

• Dole Fruit Bowls 4-Packs are 2/$4. The 04/26 SS had coupons for these – looks like the best one might be $2/2 (versus doubling the $1/3 coupon), which would bring the price as low as $1 each.

• Newman's Own Salsa is 2/$5. Use the $0.50/1 coupons (double automatically to $1 off) from the 05/31 RP, or print a $1/2 (same value as $0.50 coupons if you dollar double it).

• Kellogg's Pop-Tarts 8 packs are 2/$4. Use the $1/2 or $0.55/1 coupons from the 06/07 RP to make these as low as $0.90/box.

• Huggies Wipes are 2/$5. Use the $0.75/1 (04/19 SS) to make them $1/tub.

• Nature Made vitamins and supplements are BOGO. Use the $1/1 coupon from the 06/07 SS, and dollar double them, to get $4 off the price of one for two bottles.

• Oral-B Toothbrushes are 2/$4. The $1/2 coupon (06/07 P&G) might possibly work - dollar doubled would get them for $1 each.

• Hefty OneZip Bags are 2/$4. Use the $1/1 coupon (05/17 and/or 06/07 RP), dollar doubled, to get them FREE!

• Skittles or Starburst are 2/$5. Use the $1/1 coupon from the 06/28 SS, dollar doubled, to get them for $0.50/bag.

• Snyder's Pretzels are 2/$5. Use the $1/2 (flavored) or $1/3 (any), dollar doubled, to get them as low as $1.50/bag.

• 4C Iced Tea Mix is $3.99. There was a coupon in the 06/14 SS – if you buy an iced tea mix, it looks like you'll get a "light" mix free.

• Twizzlers are 3/$5. Use the $1/3 coupon from the 06/28 SS (dollar doubled) to get them for $1 each.

First-Day-Of-July-Reminder: Upromise.com and Coupons.com

It's already the first day of July! Time to check out the new e-Coupons on uPromise.com and the new printable coupons available on coupons.com.

If you have store loyalty cards (CVS, Giant, Safeway, Shopper's Food Warehouse, Wegmans, Harris Teeter, Food Lion, anybody?) - then you can tie your loyalty card to your upromise accounts. Just sign into upromise.com, make sure that your loyalty card numbers are tied to your upromise accounts, and go to 'Earn Rewards' in the top menu bar, and click 'e-Coupons'. You can select all of the coupons and load them for July.

You do not get the discounts right away for having loaded these coupons - the 'savings' is loaded instead to your upromise account when you purchase selected items with the store loyalty cards whose numbers you've added to your upromise account. The coupons are very often for the same items heavily promoted in Sunday inserts and store weekly ads, so if you are a couponer, odds are good that you may find yourself buying items that are on the upromise monthly e-Coupons lineup.

This is a painless way to add some college savings in just a couple of minutes. Think about it: you'd kick yourself if you later realized that the CVS "Free After ExtraCare Bucks" item(s) you purchased would also have given you a couple of bucks in your upromise account just because your store loyalty card numbers and coupons would have been pre-loaded. And remember that purchasing certain participating upromise products with your store loyalty card every day (even without e-Coupons!) will add slowly but surely to your upromise accounts.

******

Coupons.com has new coupons up on the first day of the month - get'em while they're hot (since they're limited in quantity). Since there will be dollar doubler coupons at Giant this coming week (post with matchups to come later today), the $1 'hot item' coupons.com coupons should be printed now. Like:

• Starbucks Ice Cream, $1 off, which will make the 2/$6 Starbucks just $1 each!
• $1 off Special K Blueberry Cereal, doubled, should make it less than $1.50.
• $1 off three Haagen-Dazs single-serve 4 oz. cups (normally $1.25 each) means $1.75 for 3.

...and many more. So get to printing! :)

FREE Nakano Rice Vinegar, up to $4 in Value

Freebies4Mom covers just about every freebie known to man - we highly recommend checking out the site for info on free samples, freebie coupons, restaurant freebies, and so on.

This particular freebie for a bottle of regular or seasoned Nakano Rice Vinegar caught my attention because I occasionally (attempt to) make homemade sushi in a bid to save money over restaurant or grocery store sushi. Rice vinegar is a nonnegotiable when making sushi, so a free $4 bottle gives you that much more of a savings over getting sushi elsewhere, since rice vinegar and nori (the seaweed sheets, available at Shopper's, Safeway, or Asian and international grocery stores) are the two foundational ingredients that cost the most. Bonus: the nori is quite nutritious, being high in both Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

Go here for some starter ideas on sushi recipes. I love mine with avocado and cucumber...mmm!

Go here for starter ideas on any recipes involving rice vinegar - which, as Freebies4Mom so rightly mentioned, makes a great dressing base.
