Report from the Field: Kohl's $10 Gift Card FREEBIE, Results in Near-Free Jewelry!

A couple of days ago I received a Kohl's $10 freebie card in my mailbox - this is a card that you can use on any purchase of at least $10 pre-tax value. SWEET. I love it when these come around. They are usually cellophaned onto a larger flyer/brochure from Kohl's so keep your eyes peeled. The $10 coupon is good today and the next three days, if memory serves me rightly. I usually consider it a nice little challenge - how little can I get away with paying while still hitting the $10 threshold to use the card?

I stopped at Kohl's today after another errand since it was on the way home, and to my great delight they had a fairly big jewelry sale going on. Tables of genuine diamond chip sterling silver and gold-plated jewelry in presentation boxes - originally marked around $80-$90 - down to around $20. If you had a niece or other lady in your life who might appreciate those, the $10 gift card would make them just $10!

There were also racks featuring stuffed Dr. Seuss characters like the Grinch and the Grinch's dog (name escaping me at the moment...was it Max?). These, along with copies of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! were just $5 each - so someone with the $10 coupon could get a couple of fun kids' gifts for free. Niiiiice.

This time, I ended up selecting a pair of Dana Buchman clip rhinestone earrings - my mother-in-law wears clip earrings since her ears aren't pierced, and sometimes clip earrings can be tough to find. They were originally $16, marked down to $10.40. I paid the $0.40 plus a few pennies tax for a little bling bling to brighten her Christmas.

At checkout, I noticed that the gal in front of me was using both a recently-mailed Kohl's 15% off coupon AND a $10 coupon. When I asked, the cashier confirmed that you could use both a cash coupon ($10) and a percent-off coupon (%) in combination with each other. Wow! Wish I had known that, though it would have saved me only $1.50ish off of my earrings, leaving me to troll the clearance racks with an increasingly cranky baby for some item valued at about that amount in order to meet my $10 threshold.

Did YOU receive this $10 card? What did you use it to buy - something fun for yourself? A stocking stuffer or two?

Receipt freebies!

I've (Mel) been pleasantly surprised to find a cornucopia(no pun intended!) of register receipt freebies lately.  Have you?

I've received 2 free tall drinks at my local Starbucks lately, thanks to a survey noted on my receipts.  I've gone to the website, taken a 3-minute survey and returned to the store for my free drinks.  That's $3.10 in savings each time! Woot!

I also noticed that Chick-fil-a has started running similar survey freebies on their register receipts.  So don't throw away that paper before you read the bottom! Between my husband and me, we scored 2 free chicken sandwiches this week, thanks to another 3-minute web survey.

Ah, the thrill of freebies!

Look in Your Mail for a $10/$10 Purchase Kohl's Gift Card

I LOVE it when this happens - once or twice a year, I receive a Kohl's flyer in the mail with a coupon good for $10 off of a $10 purchase! I use this to score some clearanced clothes or on-sale toys for my daughter free or near-free, though one time last summer I did get something just for me: free K-cups! My Kohl's flyer + $10/$10 coupon (no Kohl's credit card required to spend, no limitations on what to buy) arrived yesterday in the mail.

Like with the JCPenney $10/$10 purchase deal last week, this is another great example of how you can use the little deals that pop by a couple of times a month to stock up on stocking stuffers, other Christmas gifts, and birthday gifts throughout the year. It's never to early to snag a deal in advance of a gift-giving occasion!

So check your mail this weekend and pay extra close attention to see if you have any Kohl's flyers - they just might snag you some freebies. :)

BOGO Drinks at Caribou Coffee This Weekend, Saturday and Sunday!

Caribou Coffee Drinks are BOGO this weekend - get in some good coffee with a friend! Click the above to enlarge and print to take in to your local Caribou Coffee. :)

$10 off $10 Purchase At JCPenney ONLINE!

When you spend at least $10 on JCPenney's website, you can get $10 off your purchase by using code GO4TEN. Although you'll pay around $6 for shipping, this is a great deal! Here are some creative ways that you can work that $6-shipped price on $10 items (must meet or exceed $10 total):

• Maternity Wear - normally very expensive, because when you find yourself shopping for maternity wear, they've "got" you! There are a ton of maternity and nursing related products here, which could be had for very cheaply - like a LOT of tops marked down to $10.99 - making them around $7 shipped! Even if you're not pregnant, consider it an opportunity to brighten the day of someone in your life who is expecting. What's not to like about an unexpected package just for the mama-to-be?

• Speaking of mamas-to-be or new mamas, you could also send some very cute baby outfits inexpensively in honor of a baby shower or birth.

• All shoes ship free. I also spy some cute summer-theme handbags for under $10, so with a cheap item thrown on top you could have someone's spring or summer 2011 birthday or other gift taken care of!

• Teen boys' clearance has a 70% off section. Time to dress the dudes in your life cheaply!

• Chocolate brown leather Isotoner 100% cashmere-lined gloves (size 6.5, small), $16.99. After $10 discount, you'll pay just $13 for originally-priced-at-$54 gloves. If you know a lady with smaller hands, this would be a great stocking stuffer - or a nice gift of appreciation for your kids' piano teacher (...tutor...schoolteacher...mail lady...hairdresser...etc.!).

Remember that Christmas is just around the corner - I even saw Christmas decorations ALREADY in Target today (yeesh!). If you pick up clearanced items and pay only $6 or so to ship, you're stocking up your gift stash very inexpensively. :) Click through to the JCPenney site via ebates for 3% cash back.

As a disclaimer, if you sign up for ebates under our ebates link (here), we will receive cash back thanks to you. You'll receive a starting bonus, too

HOT: free Millstone coffee in today's Washington Post 9/18

I was pleasantly surprised to see a freebie featured in the plastic outer bag covering my Saturday Washington Post today 9/18. There's a bulk coffee bag insert in the plastic bag, so keep that bag today!

* Get a FREE 1/2 lb. bag of Millstone Bulk Coffee (up to $4.75) when you take this bag and coupon to your participating local grocer. Expires 10/31/10.

I've never tried Millstone coffee before, but I'm looking forward to it! The company seems to put out manufacturers coupons pretty regularly in the Washington Post circulars, so if I like it I might be able to coupon my way to cheap coffee later! And if I don't like it, coffee is always a good hostess or teacher gift.

Currently Updating Giant Deals

I'm currently updating the Giant deals to show some dollar doubler deals. Check the Giant post - I'll republish throughout the evening in case it gives anyone a chance to get their own coupons together. Barilla Picollini pasta should be FREE, woo hoo!

5 Reasons to Visit Giant This Week, 09/10-09/16

Ahhh, that back-to-school spring is in everyone's step, and the stock-up deals are flooding Giant's ads now that everyone's back in town. There are also dollar doublers in this week's ad, as I mentioned. I haven't had time yet to rake through the entire Giant ad and the online coupon database to determine if there are any hot matches (I was out of town this weekend - the last of the summer trips), so if anybody has found any good deals, please feel free to post a comment!

VistaPrint Deals @ Moneywise Moms

Gina posted a link to some FREEBIES at VistaPrint. Go check out her post and make your way over to VistaPrint from there for some freebies!

Ironically I made my way to the site via her blog, and then once I was ready to order I went to ebates (as I do with nearly all online orders) to click back through the VistaPrint site (they were offering 5% cash back). Clicking through ebates seems to eliminate the freebie offers activated by Gina's affiliate link, though, so be sure to go through Gina's link for 10 freebies:

• Sticky notepad
• Photo calendar
• Mouse pad
• Business cards
• Address return labels (or as I ordered them: Personalized To/From Christmas package labels)
• Photo tote bag
• Photo notebook
• Mug

...and more!! There is a nominal initial shipping fee, and after that, a little bit ($1-2) added per item. I ordered 9 of the freebies, and the shipping/processing came to around $23.14...so...like $2.57 per item. Cheap considering that most items on the list are $10-$20 retail from these photo sites. Grandparents' Day is just around the corner!

FREE 100 Business Cards via Zazzle - Ship free, too!

I just tried out the deal via Money Saving Mom (thanks, Crystal!) on getting 100 business cards for free - shipped free, too! - from Zazzle.com. Jump on this deal and be sure to choose economy shipping to get the whole shebang FREE!

If you don't need business cards, make mommy calling cards, fancy "To/From" Christmas gift tags...be creative! This freebie won't last long.

Chick-fil-a Cow Appreciation Day: Free Lunch tomorrow!

Just a reminder about the big freebie available tomorrow at Chick-fil-a!

My toddler and I spent 20 minutes tonight pinning the spots, sign and tail on our shirts(available here in PDF format) and ended in giggles. We're looking forward to free food tomorrow!

July 9, 2010 is Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-Fil-A. If this year's is the same as past years, a cow "costume" (loosely defined) will get you some freebies - this year's is a combo meal for a head-to-toe cow costume effort and an entree item for a cow accessory effort.

Mmmmm chicken!

Regal Free Family Film Festival Starts June 29!

MARK THE CALENDAR!

I know I'm not the only mom excited about Regal's Free Family Film Festival. In Northern Virginia, it starts next week (June 29) and runs every Tuesday & Wednesday at 10 am through

August 25. Woot!

Two summers ago my toddler couldn't sit through a whole kids' movie without walking around, but this summer I think he'll do well. If you haven't tried Regal's free movies out, I(Mel) highly recommend it. There are quite a few participating theaters in Northern Virginia. Movies start at 10 am, and movie snacks are discounted. I've seen moms with sleeping or nursing babies, and the movies can be a bit loud with all the kids. But it's a great way to get out on hot days, and we've enjoyed meeting friends at movies so share the fun. Can you beat free, air conditioned entertainment during the summer?!

I've marked my calendar for the movies we can attend all summer and look forward to taking my toddler to the Veggie Tales movie, "Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" in 2 weeks. Let us know if you go!

To find a participating Regal theater near you, click here.

Get Your Cow Costume Ready - Chick-Fil-A Dress Like A Cow Day = Freebies!

July 9, 2010 is Dress Like a Cow Day at Chick-Fil-A. If this year's DLACD is the same as past DLACDs, a cow "costume" (loosely defined) will get you some freebies - this year's is rumored to be a combo meal for a head-to-toe cow costume effort, and an entree item for a cow accessory effort.

We mention this now so that you can ponder ahead of time how to coax your entire family (bonus points if you get your teenagers to do it) into earning a nearly-free meal at Chick-Fil-A.

Mmmmm chicken!
