Quick! RedBox Codes, Good Today 07/06 and Tomorrow 07/07

In the interest of efficiency since the clock is ticking on the 07/06 code, we'll direct you to Crystal's post with two hot RedBox coupon codes for free rentals. Thanks, Crystal!

FREE Nakano Rice Vinegar, up to $4 in Value

Freebies4Mom covers just about every freebie known to man - we highly recommend checking out the site for info on free samples, freebie coupons, restaurant freebies, and so on.

This particular freebie for a bottle of regular or seasoned Nakano Rice Vinegar caught my attention because I occasionally (attempt to) make homemade sushi in a bid to save money over restaurant or grocery store sushi. Rice vinegar is a nonnegotiable when making sushi, so a free $4 bottle gives you that much more of a savings over getting sushi elsewhere, since rice vinegar and nori (the seaweed sheets, available at Shopper's, Safeway, or Asian and international grocery stores) are the two foundational ingredients that cost the most. Bonus: the nori is quite nutritious, being high in both Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

Go here for some starter ideas on sushi recipes. I love mine with avocado and cucumber...mmm!

Go here for starter ideas on any recipes involving rice vinegar - which, as Freebies4Mom so rightly mentioned, makes a great dressing base.

.

Bertucci's Coupon - $5 off $25 Purchase

Bertucci's is a family-oriented Italian restaurant - and they make a mean rosemary calzone, I must say - big enough to feed two easily. The salads and pizzas there are great, too.

Here is a printable coupon for $5 off a $25 purchase at Bertucci's (expires 07/15/09) that I stumbled across this morning in a banner ad. Remember to tip according to the original purchase quantity. :)

Monday June 8 RedBox Code Freebie Rental - and Other Redbox Codes

Edit: due to reader feedback we can no longer recommend either of these codes. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused (and thanks to our readers for telling us about it!).

Crystal says that you can still use this past weekend's code DEVRY6268 at Redboxes through the end of today, Monday, June 8. Woohoo, and thanks Crystal for publicizing this! Happy free renting, folks!

But please note:
If it's your very first time using RedBox with a given credit card, use the code REDBOX first (this is a one time only code good only on the first time you use Redbox). If you want to use this code and the Monday 06/08 code, then you pretty much need to rent two movies tonight, using REDBOX first and then the Monday code.

Notes on Giant Run - "Cheap Date Night In!"

Made a stop at Giant today - as predicted based on the coupon offer text, the $3/$15 meat coupon definitely works without/before the BonusCard is scanned.

Porterhouse and T-Bone steaks measured in packages from ~$20-$30 retail ($10-$15 after BonusCard discount) - which makes it hard to use the "buy $15 of steak" strategy I mentioned before. Basically about the best you can do on the steak is to buy the smallest package available, around $20 retail, use the $3/$15 coupon, and then scan your BonusCard to get a $20 package for $7. Still a great (and oh so freezable) discount at 65%.

Those of you who are more "housebound" because you're parents to little ones can appreciate the value of a post-kids'-bedtime "date night in".

Here is a sample of a date night in based on price ranges of items that I picked up today (see our discussion of weekly deals and matchups at Giant):

2 Porterhouse Steaks - $7 after $3/$15 coupon
2 ears of corn, grilled, ~$0.34 on sale
1 watermelon @$3.99, - we'd eat ~$1 worth for dinner
1 Ben and Jerry's pint - $2 after $0.50 manufacturer coupon
1 can ice cold Barq's root beer for hubs - $0.18 after Coke 12-packs deal
(water for me)
=======================
Total consumed: $7 + $0.34 + $1 + $2 + $0.18

=~$10.52 for a quickly-prepared dinner of "splurges", and no tips to pay! (Though I could prorate the pennies of propane, the Heinz 57, the free-after-Cats-and-coupons butter, and salt and pepper if you really wanted me to...) Did I mention that I ended up with half of my steak leftover for today's lunch? Maybe that would bring the price for the sample dinner date down another $1.75. ;-p

This date would have normally cost around $26.91 at retail grocery prices or upwards of $50 for a sit-down dinner out (babysitter not included!), for a date discount of up to 80% or more. That's what I call a cheap date. :)
.

Redbox Free Rental Updates

Well - for now the weekly "free rental Mondays" are supposed to be over, with a once-monthly free rental program promised for the summer for those who sign up to receive texts of the codes by cell phone. But Inside Red Box posted a tantalizing message hinting that by this time next week, there may be a way back to free rentals every week. IRB also says:

"But, in the meantime, check out our recent post titled “Who’s Afraid of the Big, Bad Redbox?” and take advantage of a free trial that will get you at least 6 free rentals over the next 2 weeks."

So, this is looking semi-promising - 'cause once per week is about as often as my husband and I manage to sit down for a stretch on the same night and agree about which latest release (entails explosions/laughs/kissing debates) we want to watch.

We'll keep you posted. In the meantime, look at our past Redbox Free Rental Code Posts to see the free rental codes out there which are not day-specific, or head over to insideredbox.com.
