Cheap, Healthy Weekend, 03/06-03/09

Before the weekend kicks off, we try to post a list of healthy eats deals - including produce, lean meats, and coupon matchups on healthier items. This can slash your produce and meat budget, even without a huge coupon stash, so look out for Cheap, Healthy Weekend in the future. 03/06-03/09:

Giant
Doubling manufacturers' coupons with in-ad coupon the entire week.
Remember that Giant takes Safeway coupons now! Thanks to some eagle-eyed readers who confirmed this in their locations.

  • $1.66/lb. Strawberries, 1 lb. packages
  • (3 for $5) $1.60/ea Weight Watchers Smart Ones Entrees, 5 for $10. Use this printable coupon to get $1 off 5 (limit 2 printed per Windows-run computer). 5 for $8 = $1.60 each.
  • $0.99/lb. Braeburn apples or Bosc pears.
Safeway
Double coupons up to $0.99 in value Saturday and Sunday only!

  • Fresh Express Salads, $1.98 each (these are normally closer to $3)
  • 8 lb. bag navel oranges, $3.98 - horray for Vitamin C and no scurvy!
  • Lucerne milk, $2.99/gal when you buy 2
  • Twin pack Thomas' English muffins, $1.99 (save up to $3!). These are great peanut butter or hummus bases for toddlers.
  • Trans Ocean Crab Classic 8oz package is BOGO at $3.49. There is a printable $1.00 off coupon from SmartSource.com; since you're buying two, use 2 coupons to get 2 packages for $1.49 - Just ~$0.75/package for something that would normally cost you $3-4! With Omega-3s and zero fat, you can't go wrong. Crab recipes available here on AllRecipes.com.
  • SuperCoupon steal with in-ad SuperCoupon and your Safeway Club Card:
    Special K bars or NutriGrain bars, $1.49/boxBuy Saturday or Sunday. With the $1/2 Nutrigrain coupon from the 01/11 SS insert, these are $0.99/box.
  • Saturday and Sunday only at Safeway: 5-lb. bag of white potatoes, carrots or yellow onions, $1.98 (I hear the crock pot calling!)
Bloom

  • Whole Salmon - sliced into steaks and fillets for free! - just $3.99/lb. Yay, more Omega-3s!
  • Perdue Roasting Chicken, $0.99/lb. (Store-sourced chickens are often cheaper, but this is cheap for Perdue.)
  • Fresh Express Salads, 2/$5 (These are cheaper at Safeway this weekend, but if you can't make it to Safeway this is still a decent price at Bloom.)

  • Kellogg’s Special K cereal, Special K bars, or Raisin Bran - $2.50 (through 03/28). Use the $1/1 Speciak K Blueberry from the 02/22 RP insert. Final price: $1.50.
  • Barbara’s Bakery Puffins cereal (in the organic section) - $2.50. Use the $1.00/1 Barbara’s Bakery cereal coupon from 01/11 or 02/08 RP insert. Final price: $1.50.
  • Gorton’s frozen fish (assorted varieties) - $1.99 (through 03/14). Use the $0.40/Gorton’s product coupon from 03/o1 SS insert. Final Price: $1.19
